Jozy Work Permit Confirmed

jozy-altidore-1As expected Jozy Altidore’s work permit has been confirmed and he will be able to Join Hull City and hopefully play Chelsea this weekend on ESPN. USASoccernews is reporting via twitter:

“USsoccerNewsUSA forward Jozy Altidore had his UK work permit approved today. His loan to Hull City is now complete”

Also Hull is now reporting:

“The Club can confirm that striker Jozy Altidore’s application for a UK Work Permit has been successful.Altidore has now reported for international duty with the USA ahead of their World Cup Qualifier against Mexico on Wednesday night. We wish him well for the game in Mexico City and look forward to his return as a Hull City player at the end of the week.”

This is expecteed so not huge news just good to know nothing messed up.  He has already been practicing with the team, and from what we saw this weekend with their inabilty to score, I see big playing time agianst one of the best, and most popular teams in the world.  Jozy is on the big stage and he is going to shine!

ESPN to show Jozy/EPL?

epl_logo_2EPL Talk is reporting that ESPN may have reached a deal with the EPL to show two games a week on ESPN here in the US.

“ESPN has acquired the TV rights to two of the weekly Premier League slots on US television for the 2009-2010 season. Beginning on August 15, 2009, each week ESPN will feature the 7:45am ET Saturday game and the 3pm ET Monday game.”

The first game to be shown by ESPN? Presumably Chelsea v Hull City on August 15th, Jozy Altidore’s first game in the EPL for Hull.  There will also be games featuring teams with American players including: Fulham (Clint Dempsey and Eddie Johnson), Aston Villa (Fridel, Guzan), Everton (Tim Howard) on the prospective schedule.

However ESPN’s Ives Galarcep says not to get too excited yet as the deal is in the works and not yet official.

“UPDATE-Sources tell me no deal is finalized yet, but that talks are underway. In other words, you might want to hold off on the celebration until something official is announced.”

Hopefully this works out becuase it would be great to see Americans suceeding with their European Club teams, especially as it seems that more and more players are entering the top European Leagues.

Update: Altidore Offically Introduced

Altidore to Hull

Altidore to Hull

Jozy Altidore has officially been introduced to the media as a member of Hull City for the 2009-2010 season. It appears he will wear the #9 Jersey this season which could be the first sign that he is going to get significant playing time, as #9 is traditionally worn by the teams primary first striker.

Jozy Altidore Joins Hull City

Jozy Altidore, the 19 year old striker from New Jersey, is officially going on loan from Villareal in Spain’s La Liga to Hull City in the EPL for the 2009-2010 season.  On his twitter page Jozy said “First match is against Chelsea, subject to a work permit *wink* *wink*,”.

Last year Altidore joined Villareal with the largest transfer fee for an American ever of about $10 million but saw little playing time before he was transferred to a second division team Xeres where he continued to sit on the bench.  The hope for this year is that Hull City a recently promoted Premier Division team in the English system will be able to offer Jozy with strong competition, coaching, and much playing time so he can improve his skills for both Villareal when he returns next year, and the US national team.

Jozy is next expect to play for the US National team an August 12 at Mexico.
