Dallas beat Houston by the score of 1-0 thanks to a Jeff Cunningham goal in the 20th min. Cunningham who scored 4 goals vs Kansas City last week now has 8 goal in his last five games and 9 in total to jump up to a tie for second in the league. He also missed a PK in the game that could have added to his total. Cunningham is originally from Jamaica and played briefly for the Jamaican National Team before becomming a US citizen and making a few appearances for the US team. He is 32 years old so hes not too likely to rejoin the National Team but if he keeps scoring like this its still possible. He has 113 MLS career goals, third all time.
Brian Ching left the game at halftime with “fatigue” but it seems not to be much of an issue, as he was just being given rest, due to his extra play with the National Team. Dallas Captain Pablo Ricchetti will miss the teams next game after receiveing a yellow card, his fifth of the season.
Stuart Holden just updated his blog and it is filled with insight on the big last few weeks for him. He talks about his time in the Gold Cup where he was extremely impressive, and discusses the forgettable 5-0 final loss to Mexico.
He also recaps his time on the MLS All Star Game vs Everton saying:
“I was happy with my output as I had an assist for both teams! And before you ask, I don’t really know what I was thinking on the first pass!! Haha!”
He then goes on to talk about Scoring for Houston on his Birthday. Check out his blog Shootin’ it with Stu, and see him tonight vs Dallas.
Personally I thought that Holden looked totally in control during the Gold Cup and a huge level above all the other players on the field (excluding the final when no one looked very good). I think he could make a positive impact on the National team if he is givin the chance.
The only MLS game being played tonight is Dallas v Houston at 10:30 ET. National Team Member and Gold Cup captain Brian Ching will be leading number 1 Houston with likely National Team members Stuart Holden and Ricardo Clark. Holden had a great Gold Cup that probably will result in a call up for the game vs Mexico on Aug. 12. No one from Dallas seems to factor into the National Team’s upcoming games except possibly Kenny Cooper who scored twice in the Gold Cup.
