So in what is already a very tumultuous relationship with David Beckham, the LA Galaxy and MLS, England National Team Coach is now saying he will not include Beckham on the World Cup squad unless he leaves the MLS. Per ESPN:
“Beckham knows well that if he doesn’t return to a big European championship in December he’ll have no chance for the World Cup,” Capello was quoted as saying by Monday’s La Gazzetta dello Sport.”
This is blatant disrespect for the MLS and it actually offends me. I’m not going to argue that the MLS is better than playing for AC Milan… its not, but that he makes its seem like because Beckham is in the US hes not even playing soccer is just wrong. I know he was leaving as soon as he could no matter what, but I really want Beckham’s leaving of the MLS to be a good one, to help grow the league and get other big name players over here, but this really doesn’t help. At least he has an excuse now. I’ve never had much respect for the England National team, for all the supposed superstars they never do anything, but now I’m very much against them and their blatant anti-American bias. Its almost like they fear the US becoming a real soccer threat and don’t want us to beat them at another thing after that Revolutionary War…
There are four games being played in the MLS today:
New England v LA 6 EST
Number 5 in the east New England takes on number 3 in the west LA, or team Landon Donovan and David Beckham. The super hot LA team that is 4-0-1 with Beckham playing.
Landon Donovan (LA) is the only National Team player in this game.
San Jose v Columbus 8:30 EST
Last place in the West San Jose takes on number 1 in the East Columbus. Important game for Columbus as Chicago is only one point behind them with one less game played.
Chad Marshall (Columbus) is the only National Team Player in this game.
Real Salt Lake v Seattle 9 EST
Number 6 in the West Salt Lake takes on number 2 Seattle, in a game that includes no National Team Players.
Colorado v Chivas USA 9:30 EST
The only match-up with two national team players, Casey’s Colorado takes on Bornstien’s Chivas as the teams are ties in the West, both in 4th with 27 pts (although Chivas have played 2 less games).
Conor Casey (Colorado) and Johnathon Bornstien (Chivas) are the National Team players in this game.
If there any fans of these teams (my team NY sadly) who wish to tell more about the matchups please leave a comment and Ill add it into the post…
David Beckham has an option to buy an MLS team in his contract and today said that he is interested says ESPN:
“Asked on Friday what he would do next, Beckham said he was “definitely interested” in becoming a Major League Soccer owner. He couldn’t say for sure whether he would play for the team as well.”
Hopefully he does this and uses his connections to bring over some more stars to the MLS.
