*numbers indicate all-time World Cup Qualifying caps/goals

Players left off who could have made it: Beckerman, Rogers, Beasley, Pearce, Adu, Kljestan, Mastroeni, Cooper. Of these I think Beasley and Kljestan are the most surprising just because of the fact that Bradley seems to really like them.  Adu is also a little suprising but a think its good to leave him off becuase he hasnt had any sort of action recently that would makes us think hes in playing shape, and really needs to work for all the playing time he can get in Europe.

Surprising additions: Marshall, Torres, Casey. Marshall must have made a good impression on Bradley during the Gold Cup or maybe it was just that Pearce has not looked good for a while now.  The Torres selection maybe becuase Bradley thinks he will be motivated vs Mexico, but he seems to be very popular with US fans (it seems just because hes young and Mexican-American) without proving himself too much internationally.  Casey is probably selected for his strenght, in hope that he can be physical late in the game as a sub and control the ball.

Also of note: I find it a little odd that the US site lists Donovan and Dempsey as Fowards, as they will most definilty start as midfielders, although Bradley likes to sub out a foward and move Dempsey up recently.

I thought either Jermaine Jones or Edgar Castillo would make a debut in this game! I’ve read many rumors that each might in this game over the months. Guess we’ll have to wait until later qualifying games. Any ideas on which game we could see Jones debut?

I’m pretty sure he is not allowed to play for the US until Sep/Oct, he has to get citizenship and those kinds of things. Also I think he is dealing with an injury at the moment, but I cant wait for him to join. As for Castillo hes not officially on the team either and I don’t think he would want to play his first game vs Mexico, but maybe that’s extra motivation.

I’m surprised Conner Casey was included, but to be honest, I think it is a wash between him and Cooper. I don’t think Casey will see the field either.

Adu isn’t game fit yet. He needs to be in shape and have played some games to even get a chance. I like the Holden inclusion. He will provide great energy off the bench late in the game. I would sub Holden in late and put Dempsey up top.

I think Marshall has earned the centerback backup roll. He was a beast in the Gold cup. Overall, I think the selections are solid.

  3. GO USA

Yeah I think Cooper wasn’t called in because he’s trying to get situated with Munich 1860.

I like the lineup especially Holden getting the call. A winger who can actually cross YAY!

I also think Adu is trying to find out his club situation as well because I think he trying to get a move over to the Dutch league. Wouldn’t be the best for him right now to call him in. I think we’ll be seeing him later once we are qualified already though.

Also yes Jermaine Jones has a hairline fracture but I heard his injury recovery is ahead of schedule and he should be getting better later this month. But don’t expect to see him until like Sept./ Oct. like Zblair said.

I also heard Castillo is trying to get the papers done to switch to USA… so we probably won’t see him play too until were all qualified. Just a guess but it seems reasonable that he’ll play after we are qualified rather than when we are still trying unless he replaces some 1 injured.
